COACHING CERTIFICATION PROGRAMM

The Jamaican netball programme continues to rely on our local talent to coach our national teams. We are proud of this achievement as, over the years we have been able to maintain a high level of play and consistency in our ranking. We have proven that Jamaicans can be as good at sport coaching as foreign nationals. Most of our national coaches are the product of our coaching certification programme, which sees to the preparation of netball coaches in the island of Jamaica.

We recognise the pivotal role that coaches have played in the life of the game in the island. We are committed to maintaining and developing world class netball coaches. Consequently, our focus in 2006/2007 will be to certify club and school coaches first at the local level and where possible at international level.

Our coaching certification programme is not new it has been in existence for over ten years. This programme certifies coaches as follows:

  • Introductory Certification
  • Elementary Certification
  • Intermediate Certification
  • Advance Certification
  • Jamaica/International Certification

The level of the certification is determined by the quality of the candidate's performance during the practical test. All courses and tests attract a minimal fee.

Coaching in Jamaica is managed by the JNA's Council, and overseen by a sub-committee.The current members of the coaching sub-committee are as follows.

Certification classes will be held for the introductory, elementary and intermediate levels. In November 2006, certified coaches will benefit from the visit of Miss Jill Mc Intosh, former National Coach of Australia. She will be conducting a number of seminars with our coaches over a six-week period. These seminars are important certification elements, but more so for movement from the intermediate to the advance level. The seminars will take the form of "power sessions" for certified coaches. A nominal particiaption fee will be charged.

If you are not already certified at either the introductory, elementary or intermediate levels of netball coaching, please keep checking this site for dates or call the Secretariat for more details.
